About Us

The Woodlands Highlanders Football Team

The Woodlands High School Varsity Football Team is led by head coach Jim Rapp.

Rapp took over the Head coaching job in 2019, and the Highlanders have made the playoffs every year since he took the helm. Previously, Rapp was the offensive line and offensive coordinator for the Highlanders for 22 seasons. He was an integral part of the Highlanders 6A Division 1 state championship run back in 2016. Rapp continues the Highlanders quest for a state championship this 2023 season.

The team competes in District 13-6A. The Woodlands Highlanders have been playing varsity football since 1978. They made their first playoff appearance in 1981, which also marked the team's first district championship. The Highlanders have made two state championship appearances with one in 2016 and the other being in 2003.

The Highlanders were on the cusp of glory during the 2022-2023 season having ended the season with a 10-3 overall record with only one loss coming during district play. Upon finishing 2nd in district play, only one game back of New Caney, the Highlanders made it to the Regional stage of the state tournament before losing to the eventual state champion Duncanville Panthers.

The Woodlands looks to repeat much of the same success from last season into the upcoming 2023-2024 season. The season starts with a game against state runner-up North Shore on Friday, August 25th and district begins on Friday, September 8th with Oak Ridge.
