THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- When it comes to back and neck pain, many people are unsure about which type of specialist to see – an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon.

That question and many other related topics will be covered during an upcoming back and neck seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 26, at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.

This informative free seminar will be presented by spine specialists Andrew H. Marky, MD, MPH, neurosurgery, and Kenneth Palmer, MD, orthopedic surgery, who will discuss the latest advancements in surgical options, imaging, and rehabilitative technologies to diagnose and treat back and neck pain.

“Degenerative changes in the neck and back that occur with age as well as lifestyle factors, such as not maintaining a healthy weight, are two of the most common causes of pain that I see as an orthopedic surgeon,” said Dr. Palmer. “In younger individuals, back pain tends to be sports related. Advanced imaging enables us to diagnose the source of pain for treatment, followed by innovative rehabilitative technologies.”

Dr. Marky added, “Just as back and neck pain issues are unique to each person, so too are the treatment options available today. As a neurosurgeon, I’ll discuss the latest advancements in spine procedures for back and neck pain. There are many broader types of treatments that we can provide here at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital without having to send patients to the Texas Medical Center.”
