THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Woodlands, Texas: The following events are planned for adults, children, young adults, and their families in February 2020 at George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library, 8125 Ashlane Way, The Woodlands, Texas.

All events take place at the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library:

Computer Classes

Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 4th, 6th, 11th, and 13th at 9:30am – Microsoft Word 2016 (Parts 1-4)
Microsoft Word is the most often used application for creating documents such as resumes and letters. Join us as we learn Word in depth from start to finish.

Fridays, February 7th and 21st at 9:30am – Tech Talk
Have a question about your computer, phone, or tablet? Need help using a Microsoft Office program or other software? Come to the computer lab and get your questions answered.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 18th, 20th, 25th, and 27th at 9:30am – Microsoft PowerPoint (Parts 1-4)
PowerPoint is the most popular presentation software in use today. These classes will teach you how to use all the great features PowerPoint has to offer so you can create top-notch presentations.

Monthly or Bi-Monthly Events at the Library

Tuesday, February 4th at 5:30pm– Movie Night – Teens 13-17
Pizza, popcorn, and movie candy will be served. Registration is required.

First Wednesday, February 5th at 6:30pm – Adult Evening Book Club
Not sure what to read next? Let us pick the book for you! The evening book club reads a mix of fiction and non-fiction selections and meets in Community Room 102 for a lively discussion of the current book. February’s book of choice is Goodbye, Vitamin: A Novel by Rachel Khong, a funny novel about love, family, and finding your way.
*February’s meeting will take place the 1st Wednesday of the month instead of the 3rd Wednesday of the month due to primary elections.

First Thursday, February 6th at 2:00pm – Adult Fiction Book Club
Join fellow book lovers for a discussion of The Weight of a Piano by Chris Cander. Follow the interweaving stories of two women – a Soviet concert pianist and a young mechanic in California – and their shared, devastating connection to the same Bluthner piano, its tragic history, and to each other.

First and Third Friday, February 7th and 21st at 9:30am – Needlecrafts: Knit & Stitch
Crocheters, knitters, embroiderers, quilters, and all textile artists welcome. Bring your own work-in-progress and supplies! Drop by Conference Room 222 on the second floor for inspiration and to meet fellow crafters.

Second and Third Tuesday, February 11th and 18th at 1:00pm – Adult Writers Group
If you have a writing project you would like to start or a project you want to finish, Mitchell Writers Group might be a source of inspiration for you. Participants discuss each other’s work and offer supportive critique. Come join the fun!

Second Tuesday, February 11th at 1:30pm – Crafternoons
Join us in Community Room 102 for Crafternoons, an adult-focused craft program for adults and families to express their creativity! Each month will feature free crafts to create and take home, while supplies last. No advanced skills needed; just show up ready to have fun, meet other community members, and create something amazing! All ages welcome, but be aware that crafts are intended for adults. All supplies and instructions provided; no registration needed. Happy crafting!

Third Thursday, February 20th at 1:00pm – Adult Nonfiction Book Club
Please join us for an enlightening discussion with like-minded nonfiction fans as we discuss Michael Scott Moore’s The Desert and the Sea: 977 Days Captive on the Somali Pirate Coast. This true-life thriller of the author’s harrowing ordeal is told with wit, humor, and suspense.

Weekly Events at the Library

Mondays from 10:00am-12:00pm - Tiny Tots Library Play Time – Ages 3 and younger
Join us for a come-and-go Family Place Library weekly event that encourages play with educational toys and board books. Spend time together, play in a playgroup atmosphere, make friends, and visit with other parents.  (*Library will be closed on Monday, February 17th)

Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00am, 10:30am, & 11:00am - Family Storytime – Ages 3 and younger
This story program is for children and a caregiver with an emphasis on stories and activities for toddlers. This program emphasizes early literacy skills and is a great way to meet other families with young children.

Tuesdays at 1:30 pm - School Age Storytime – Ages 4 and up
Children are introduced to new authors and illustrators and develop listening, thinking, participation, literacy, and social skills. ** Children may attend story club by themselves, but a parent or guardian must remain in the library during the program.

Presidents’ Day – February 17th - all MCMLS branches closed
