THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Matchups later on in the district campaign have gained some more hype after last week’s results. The contenders remain strong with resounding wins while others search for traction.

Cleveland vs. Caney Creek

Caney Creek and Cleveland were looking to put last season’s futility behind them. With the Indians taking last year’s game, the Panthers sought to take the rematch in the early district calendar.

The Panthers played like a team possessed in the opening. Multiple strikes down the sidelines and rushes into the secondary set Caney Creek in territory to make easy scores. The Indians had to cover up mistakes on the defensive end, but their efforts came up short. A total team effort won the game in the end for the Panthers as they took home an impressive 41-7 win on the road.

The win secured the first district victory for Caney Creek since 2019 while pushing the team back over .500 on the season.

Conroe vs. The Woodlands

Still looking to reassert themselves as the team to beat in 13-6A, the Highlanders hit the road to meet the Conroe Tigers at Moorhead Stadium.

After the opening snap, it was clear that the Woodlands was fully in control of the game. The team was in sync as the offense found little trouble moving the ball into the endzone. The defense made life equally difficult for Conroe by limiting the Tigers’ ability to score any points. By the end of the first half, the Highlanders were up 42-0, and the shots would continue to come. Conroe’s only points came after a blocked extra point that was returned for a two-point score. After the dust finally settled, the Highlanders had bested the Tigers 55-2.

The Woodlands now looks to its matchup against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies to keep the unbeaten district streak alive.

Grand Oaks vs. Willis

Willis looked to continue their impressive win streak with another dominant win against the Grizzlies at Woodforest Bank Stadium.

After a two-hour lightning delay, the Wildkats took to the offensive attack. Grand Oaks knew that Willis would strike fast with the ball, so the Grizzlies waited patiently and made key stops in the early going. The two turnovers forced by Grand Oaks would not be enough to stop the Wildkats, though. The offensive production after the first quarter was simply too much for the Grizzlies to handle, resulting in a lopsided 62-13 win for Willis.

With their winning streak now at five, the Wildkats remain the district’s only unbeaten team.

New Caney vs. Oak Ridge

With the possibility of taking fourth place in district, the Oak Ridge War Eagles sought to secure a win over the New Caney Eagles on the road.

The War Eagles entered the driver’s seat in the opening quarter with a touchdown to get the offense jumpstarted. The War Eagles would never give up their lead, as steady offensive production was the name of their game. A touchdown in each of the first three quarters to New Caney’s zero allowed them to open the playbook in the fourth quarter with the win mostly secured. 20 more points to the Eagles’ 14 saw Oak Ridge finish the job with the score of 41-14.

The win snags the War Eagles fourth place in the district with a 1-1 record.
