THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Another week of high school football in 13-6A allowed teams to continue their campaigns toward potential playoff spots. The top of the district continued to show why they were where they were, while the middle of the pack continued to fight and claw for victories.

College Park vs. Willis

The hottest team in 13-6A traveled to Woodforest Bank Stadium on Thursday night, where the College Park Cavaliers awaited them, hoping to make a statement.

Rather than intended, the opening statement came from the Wildkats, who took the opening kickoff into the endzone from 100 yards out. The Cavaliers did put up points in response, but the ball was already beginning to roll in favor of Willis. The best arm in the state of Texas, D.J. Lagway, connected with his receivers with regularity, scoring on multiple passes through the air to quickly rack up points. College Park continued to fight, forcing turnovers that set the team up with opportunities that they could not cash in. After only putting in a field goal during the second half, the Cavaliers fell 56-17 to the lethal Wildkat attack.

The win keeps Willis’ undefeated season alive as teams continue to fall short of doing enough to stop the Wildkats.

Cleveland vs. The Woodlands

After a demoralizing loss to the Wildkats last week, the Cleveland Indians hosted the Woodlands Highlanders in another tough test.

The game started with a dominant display from the Highlanders in the opening quarter. Quick scores to go with turnovers allowed the Woodlands to pull out a 28-0 quarter that set the tone for how the rest of the game would go. The Highlanders racked up a further 42 points throughout the game, with Cleveland only mustering a single touchdown in response. When the dust finally settled, the Woodlands walked away with a dazzling 70-7 romp over the Indians.

The win continues the Highlanders' unbeaten streak through district play, with only the Wildkats ahead of them in the standings.

Conroe vs. New Caney

New Caney traveled to Moorhead Stadium to face the Conroe Tigers, who have struggled throughout district play.

A battle ensued where it seemed like the first team to get a meaningful stop would end up the victor. The Eagles were the first team to get stops, with no points given up in the third quarter, creating the separation needed to let the offense breathe. With the pressure off them to get scores, the New Caney offense maintained their distance from the Tigers as the game closed. A 28-18 victory got the first district win for the Eagles since Head Coach Mike DeWitt took over the program while also moving New Caney ahead in the standings.

Grand Oaks vs. Oak Ridge

In the 2023 Battle of the Oaks, the War Eagles looked to continue their momentum with a win that would keep them away from .500.

The task was already against the Grizzlies, who had to do without their starting quarterback, Grant Smith. Despite the apparent disadvantage, Grand Oaks played tightly contested football. A 14-3 lead was indicative of the faltering offense, but the Grizzlies defense played with speed, making life difficult for the War Eagle running game. In response, the Oak Ridge offense took to the air, where Adam Trosclair connected with his targets for explosive plays. The War Eagles were in control even during a Grand Oaks comeback, taking home the victory 28-16.

The win positions Oak Ridge at 3rd in the district standings, just ahead of the newly defeated Cavaliers.
