VARSITY FOOTBALL

10/13 vs. Houston Christian* • 28-14 L

Senior Night for Cooper ended with sadness as the Dragons came up short against Houston Christian 28-14. It was a hard-fought game all night, with large momentum swings and a possible preview of the soon-to-occur 3A SPC Championship game. The Dragons lose for the first time in four weeks and will need to reboot quickly as they travel to Trinity Valley this week in a do-or-die game for both teams as the winner of this game grabs the final spot in the 3A SPC championship game.

The Dragons once again struggled to find a rhythm in their offense for most of the night. Junior RB Dean Calhoun was one of the few bright spots for the Dragons rushing for 128 yards on 26 carries with one touchdown. Senior LB Cole Sheppard ran in the other Dragon score as he pulled double duty playing on both sides of the ball all night. The Dragon defense was up for the challenge, having heard all year about the greatness of the Mustang attack. It was the big plays that haunted Cooper again; SR LB Cole Sheppard, Junior LB Bryce Weatherholt, sophomore LB Colton Rhoden, and sophomore LB Cooper Dupuis were back at it again, accounting for almost two-thirds of the Dragons’ total tackles. A late score on fourth down by the Mustang offense and an interception on the next Dragon offensive possession by the Mustangs put the final nails in the Cooper coffin.

Friday in Fort Worth versus Trinity Valley School will tell the tale for the Dragons, as they charge into their own valley of uncertainty, and they gather their own light brigade for now the line holds true for them as well; “theirs is not to reason why, theirs is but to do and die.” –Coach Daniel Lewis
