CONROE, TX -- It happened at two different Valero stations on State Highway 105, a little after 5pm on December 7th. Gas prices suddenly dropped 40 cents per gallon, which flooded the station with drivers in an all out panic to get to the nearest empty pump. The Circle K/Valero located at 5600 W. Davis Street, in Conroe, dropped its regular gas price down to $2.02, plus with a Circle K Fuel Card, drivers were given an additional 10 cents off per gallon. And Bob’s your uncle, your gas price is $1.92 per gallon.

“Circle K does a promotion occasionally where we hand out Circle K Fuel Cards,” said Brigette Parker, store manager of the Circle K/Valero location. “So it enables drivers to save an additional 10 cents per gallon on their fuel cost until the cards expire next May.”

The fuel savings opportunity came as a welcome surprise to drivers who were making their way home Thursday afternoon, and the trickle of cars soon turned into a stampede, as drivers noticed the reduced gas price, and stopped whether the tank was near empty or just needed topping off.

“I think it’s great,” said Pat Keninski, of Montgomery, as she raved about the low gas price. “I come here all the time, and this is the second time I got a card for 10 cents off per gallon.”

The promotion didn’t last that long, but it offered passing drivers a welcome respite from $2.49 or higher prices per gallon that they are accustomed to on their normal commutes.
