UPDATE: MCTX Sheriff Investigates Shooting on Old Sorters Road in Porter

PORTER, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting that occurred on Old Sorters Road in Porter, Texas, on April 8, 2024.

Detectives with the Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit are seeking the public's help in locating 37-year-old Jose Carlos Nava-Prado as a possible suspect in this case. He may be driving a black Ford Mustang with Texas license plate JDZ2090.

Nava is considered armed and dangerous, if you see him, do not approach the suspect or the vehicle.

On April 8, 2024, at 12:54 am, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the 21000 block of Old Sorters Road, Porter, Texas, in reference to an assault with a firearm call. While in route, Deputies learned that a firearm had been discharged during a disturbance, where one male was transported by friends to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. Once on scene, Deputies further learned a vehicle that was possibly involved in the shooting left the location. Deputies located the vehicle and discovered a person with a gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies immediately performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived, who transported the male to a local hospital.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on the scene and are currently conducting their investigation.

Detectives are working to identify a suspect and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Due to this being an active investigation, no further information can be released. An update will be provided when available.
