THE NIGHT SKY, Texas -- "The stars at night, are big and bright....deep in the heart of Texas!" So tonight in Texas and across the nation, don't miss the final major meteor shower of the year!

The Geminid meteor shower 2012 will peak overnight at about 2 a.m. on December 14, but gazers can start watching around 9 or 10 p.m. on December 13.

The new moon will guarantee a dark sky in the location of the shower for optimal viewing of the shower. With over 50 meteors in the sky at once, the shower will cover the entire sky near the constellation Gemini.

For the best view, sky gazers should face away from constellation Gemini and the moon, which will appear close to the constellation. The constellation Gemini is the radiant of the Geminids meteor shower, which means that meteors appear to radiate from within the constellation.

NASA will also be airing the shower live at the following link http://www.nasa.gov/connect/chat/geminids2012.html.
