THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Carter Hope pitched six strong innings of two-hit baseball and Luke Sherley had four hits to lead The Woodlands Highlanders (18-0, 4-0) to an 8-0 win over the Oak Ridge War Eagles (12-7, 3-1) Friday on ORWALL Night at Scotland Yard.

The Woodlands displayed some good old-fashioned teamwork with seven Highlanders getting hits and an RBI. Only one War Eagle solved Hope as Brice Foley had the only two hits (single, double) for the War Eagles.

Oak Ridge starting pitcher, Tyler Shumpert pitched gallantly, working 2 1/3 innings scattering eight hits and striking out two Highlanders. Only three of the seven runs allowed were earned.

Marshall Kasowski came on in relief for Oak Ridge giving up one run while striking out five Highlanders in 3 1/3 innings.

Brandon Miles closed things out pitching the seventh inning in relief of Hope.

Highlander Coach, Ron Eastman likes his team's make-up.

"This group has been a real pleasure to be around this year,” Eastman said. “The off season was outstanding, the effort and energy has been great. They have taken a very positive approach to the hype and to the naysayers.

“We preach the ability to play one pitch at a time, and this group has been able to keep their focus, be concerned about the things that we have control over, which is effort and attitude.

“We are looking forward to testing ourselves against some of the best teams in the US in North Carolina next week."

The Woodlands plays Conroe on Tuesday before taking that trip to play in a prestigious national tournament in North Carolina, Thursday through Saturday, March 28-30.
