Cavaliers come out aggressive, top Oak Ridge

CONROE, Texas - The Oak Ridge War Eagle baseball team came into Thursday’s district home opener against College Park having won their last nine games in a row. College Park was looking to get off to a good start in their district opener, it’s College Park and Oak Ridge and it’s our WOL Sports Game of the Week.

College Park scores four runs in Top 1st-inning


College Park (11-6, 1-0) wasted no time as the Cavaliers put up four runs in the top of the first-inning off a lead-off single, double and two-RBI single by Noah Vaughn.

Oak Ridge (16-2, 1-1) gets one back in the bottom of the first-inning when Joey Barrile gets a double and RBI and it’s 4-1 College Park.

We move to the top of the third-inning when Austin Stokes gets a two-out RBI scoring Tyler Mortensen and its 5-2 College Park. Mortensen would then add a single and RBI in the top of the fourth-inning and its 6-2 College Park.

But back come the War Eagles chipping away in the bottom of the fourth-inning when Riley McKnight with a single and RBI and it’s 6-3. Zach Rollins follows with a hit and another War Eagle scores and it’s 6-4.

After that Jacob Mardick comes in relief for the Cavaliers and cools down the Oak Ridge bats as the War Eagles can’t get anything going in the sixth or seventh innings and College Park takes it 6-4.

With the win College Park improves to 11-6 overall, 1-0 in district. The loss for Oak Ridge ends a nine-game winning streak as they fall to 16-2 overall , 1-1 in district.
