HS Baseball/Softball Scoreboard: College Park baseball wins close battle with The Woodlands

Baseball

College Park 5, The Woodlands 4

Five runs by the Cavaliers in the first three innings were enough to hold off a late surge by Highlanders and even the season series between the rivals.



Harrison Helton went 2-3 at the plate, including a two-run RBI double, to be named the WOL Sports Player of the game.



Hank Hudson was on the mound for College Park and earned the win in 5.2 innings pitched. Hudson gave up three hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters.

Oak Ridge 7, Grand Oaks 5

The War Eagles broke the game open in the fifth inning with four runs to take down their rival for the second time this season.

Dillon Staples (Oak Ridge) and Preston Havenor (Grand Oaks) led their teams with three hits each. Staples picked up two RBIs to go along with his 3-3 performance at the plate.

Hunter Wells was the winning pitcher for the War Eagles. Wells entered the game in the fourth inning and allowed two runs on four hits in 3.2 IP.

Willis 4, Conroe 3

An error in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Wildkats a walk-off win over the Tigers.

Xander Nabors (Conroe) 2-3, and Maddox Keo (Willis) 2-2, were the game’s leaders in hits.

Softball

Oak Ridge 11, The Woodlands 9

Morgan Dutton came up clutch in extra innings to give the War Eagles the win and the sweep over the Highlanders.

Both teams combined for 28 hits with Alyssa Lyons (Oak Ridge) and Alannah Leach (The Woodlands) leading the way with three hits each. Lyons also had three RBIs in the win.

Erika Flynn’s 3 IPs earned the win, allowing four hits and no earned runs.

Grand Oaks 9, Conroe 4

The Grizzlies picked up their second straight win, and also completed the sweep over the Tigers, scoring nine runs in both wins. After allowing the first run, Grand Oaks scored nine unanswered runs from the second inning through the fifth to take control of the game.

Shauna Cunningham (Conroe) went 3-3 at the plate, and Morgan Yaegar (Grand Oaks) went 3-4 to lead the game in hits. Grand Oaks’ Jacey Meade posted three RBIs in the win.

Kourtney Bellinger got the start for the Grizzlies and earned the win with five innings of work. Bellinger allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out five batters.

Conroe Next Game: vs College Park - 4/16

Willis 8, College Park 1

The Wildkats jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back in the win over the Cavaliers.

Lana Barnes led the game in hits with a 2-3 performance at the plate.

Marissa Fletcher pitched a complete game, allowed five hits, no earned runs, and struck out 11 batters in the win.
