Because Art Matters to sponsor The Woodlands 40th anniversary student art contest

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - On behalf of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, Because Art Matters is excited to host a contest for students K-12 (Public, Private and Homeschool) to participate in a historic Student Art Contest in celebration of The Woodlands Township 40th Anniversary, sponsored by Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.

“How do you envision The Woodlands in the next 40 years?" is the subject for the contest, open to all students who live in The Woodlands Township or attend a school in The Woodlands Township boundaries. Two art categories open to competition with over $7,000 in cash prizes and awards, including Literary Arts (250-word or less essay, creative writing or Poetry), and 2-D Visual Arts (painting, drawing or photo).

Contest deadline is Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Literary Arts entries can be submitted online at http://www.WoodlandsWaterwayArtsCouncil.org. Visual Art entries can be dropped off at an on-site school locations (coming soon within the week to each participating school), and at a drop-off event at The Woodlands Mall on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Winners will be announced at The Woodlands Township’s Founders Day Celebration on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Northshore Park from 3:00-8:00 p.m.

All winning entries will be displayed at the Because Art Matters Spotlight on the Arts Gallery at The Woodlands Mall before being permanently donated and displayed at The Woodland’s Township offices.
