College Park stays red hot in March
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Not even a wet week and a delayed start to the 2015 Wings ’N More Classic could slow down the red-hot bats of the College Park Cavaliers, as they went 2-0 on Saturday to stay undefeated in the month of March at 9-0.
College Park (11-1) got two runs in the top of the sixth-inning, led by the go-ahead RBI from Colin Cameron as the Cavaliers defeated Klein Oak 7-5 on Saturday in the first game of a rain-shortened Wings ’N More Classic. Cameron, also got the start on the mound versus Klein Oak and went 4 1/3 innings, allowing just four hits and two earned runs, while striking out five. Nick Pischulla got the save striking out two in the final frame.
The Cavaliers prevailed over Clear Creek 9-6 in the second game of the tournament, in a game that saw four lead changes. College Park got a two-run double from Roosevelt Henderson, scoring Colin Cameron and Noah Vaughn to put the Cavaliers up for good in the fourth inning.
College Park will open up district play on Tuesday, March 17, at Atascocita (10-6) in their lone game during spring break.
Oak Ridge splits two in Wings ’N More Classic
CONROE, Texas - Oak Ridge split a pair at home as co-host of the 2015 Wings ’N More Classic in a rain-shortened tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Oak Ridge (8-1) defeated Memorial 5-2 in the tournament opener behind a solid team effort as the top five hitters in the line-up for the War Eagles all had hits. Addison Moss went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI’s to lead the offense and Durbin Feltman got the win to stay undefeated on the mound, going 4 innings and striking out seven batters and allowing just two hits and one earned run.
The War Eagles surrendered a seventh inning lead to Klein Oak and dropped the tournament finale, 3-2. The War Eagles struggled offensively getting just two hits in the game.
Oak Ridge opens the district schedule at Kingwood on Tuesday and will host Conroe on Friday, March 20, at 7pm.
Highlanders struggle in tough Highland Park Tournament
DALLAS - The Woodlands Highlanders went 0-3-1 during the Highland Park tournament, including a 7-0 victory over host Highland Park over the weekend.
The Woodlands (6-5-1) opened up the tournament with a 4-2 loss to Rockwall Heath in a game the Highlanders had a 2-1 lead in, however runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings by Rockwall Heath sealed the victory. The Highlanders got RBI-singles by Zach Gartner and Zach La Confora to lead the offensive attack.
In game two played at Coppell High School, the Woodlands tied Rowlett 3-3, led by Chris Andritsos at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI, including two singles and a double. The Highlanders got a solid pitching performance by starter Kyle Flowers, who went 5 innings and surrendered just one hit and two earned runs on a home run while striking out six.
In game three, the Highlanders had a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, however Highland Park rallied for four runs in the frame to take a 7-6 win. The Highlanders got two RBI’s from Chris Andritsos, including a home run in the second inning. The Woodlands closed the tournament with an 8-0 loss to Prosper.
The Highlanders will look to get back on the winning track as they open district play on Tuesday at Conroe and will host Atascocita on Friday, March 20, at 7pm, at Scotland Yard.
