THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Author Jerry Hatchett of The Woodlands has woven the world of computer crime into his new high-tech thriller, Unallocated Space.

This release is the third novel written by Hatchett, the 2014 National Indie Excellence Award winner in the Thriller category.

“I was explaining the digital forensic profession to a friend and she insisted I should write a novel featuring a digital forensic sleuth,” Hatchett said. “The more I thought about it, the better I liked the idea. I’ve always been a storyteller and I’ve always been a geek, so Unallocated Space was truly a labor of love.”

In Unallocated Space, digital forensic expert Sam Flatt is called in to investigate cyber-intrusion by hackers into the gaming machines at a futuristic Las Vegas casino called SPACE, “the largest man-made structure on earth.” Flatt, a talented investigator who sometimes struggles to keep his darker nature in check, discovers before long that he’s immersed in something far more treacherous than computer crime.

Though Hatchett’s investigations have not reached the intensity that Flatt experiences, Hatchett did use his experiences as president and founder of Red Forensic to help craft Flatt’s story. Hatchett also incorporated his technological expertise into his other two novels, Pawnbroker and Seven Unholy Days.

Hatchett’s field has been growing tremendously in recent years, and digital forensic investigation is even the topic of the latest CSI franchise, CSI: Cyber.

Hatchett is at work now on the second novel in his Sam Flatt series.

Unallocated Space is available online at Amazon.com and www.jerryhatchett.com, as well as in bookstores.
