Montgomery County, Texas - Beginning Monday, October 5, Bridgewood Farms will designate the first Monday of each month for the community to come out and visit the site on 17 acres in North Montgomery County-Conroe.

First monday of each month Bridgewood Farms will welcome visitors.

“We are hoping that the monthly event will encourage prospective volunteers and visitors to come out in an informal setting with other individuals to see what we do”, said Flo Nelson, Executive Director.

The Visitor tour will begin at 10:00 am on 11680 Rose Road in Conroe. Visitors will learn about the organization, see first-hand what programs are offered to clients, and be able to explore opportunities to donate time, participate in annual events, and share knowledge with the community.

Founded in 1967, as Montgomery County Center for the Retarded, Bridgewood Farms has a mission to provide programs and services to enable individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to reach their highest potential through training and life experiences that build self-esteem and promote personal independence. In 2001, the organization moved to its current location with Mrs. Nelson providing the leadership and direction for the organization. Her son is also one of the 100+teens and adults that currently attend Bridgewood Farms Day Program.

Clients are given the opportunity to lead healthy and productive lives in a safe, nurturing environment by taking classes, recreational activities, and weekly outings in the community. The clients are also able to train for Special Olympics throughout the year regardless of the weather with a gymnasium that was built last year. In the classrooms, clients participate in skills that teach basic nutrition, money management, housekeeping, social interaction, and reading that are specific to the individual and their needs. Other programs include respite care, pre-vocational training, horticulture, ceramics, and adult continuing education. Signature events include Around the World in 180 Minutes Wine Event in April and Burn Your Buns Bike Ride on July 4.

Bridgewood Farms requests the public to both share and support what we do to help individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities throughout Montgomery County and surrounding areas. Everyone is entitled to feel special. Bridgewood Farms is a place where happiness abounds, where peer pressure does not exist and freedom takes on new meaning to improve the quality of life for the clients.

“We are so grateful for your continued support. Please visit us and learn what we do to help individuals in the community, with disabilities lead a happy and productive life. Please feel free to share this information”, said Flo Nelson. “Our clients thrive on socialization!”
