THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Summer is here and you know that means...it's time to steer that mini van to Dairy Queen, give in to your kids' soft serve addiction (let's face — yours too) and get your summer body started off right! If you've never had DQ soft serve (wait for gasp), then you have no idea how your life is about to change. True story, I once knew a guy who fell into a soft serve machine...when he came out two days later he was smarter and better looking. This stuff is that good!

I had only taken one step inside, when an employee passed me delivering a plate to a customer with what looked like a fried chicken tender sandwich. Could it be? Scan menu, scan menu, scan menu...nope! No mention of this classic there, so I asked the cashier and was rewarded with a resounding "yes." Thank you, DQ...oh, and order me one of those bad boys too. To my table I went. Within a couple minutes my sandwich combo was there. Sigh...yes, I got fries and a drink too. I'm such an easy up-sell.

Anyway, the tenders were nice and crispy. This sandwich was "enough" (as we say in the sandwich biz) -- plenty of chicken, no over-sized bun and easy on the lettuce, tomato and mayo. My recommendation? Give it a try.

Alright, we're finally getting to the reason I actually went in the first place: the DQ Sandwich. I'll write this slowly, so you can savor it with me...vanilla DQ soft serve nestled between two chocolate wafers...its genius is in its simplicity. It needs nothing else. And for a paltry $1.59, this little beauty is the biggest value in Texas! It's perfect for kids or an ice cream treat for yourself after lunch or dinner. Biting into mine instantly cooled me off on a humid day in The Woodlands. The wafers were a great compliment but I wouldn't mind trying it with soft-baked chocolate chip cookies either. (DQ management) Don't forget napkins. There will be dripping. Stay safe and enjoy summer. Tell DQ that SandwichesRule sent you.
