THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Texas Rush Soccer Club scores on the field and off.

The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) girls' team, with the help of teammates, friends and family, raised more than $10,600 for Breast Cancer Charities of America.

The girls, decked out in pink Rush for the Cure t-shirts, recently presented a check to I Go Pink, the local chapter of Breast Cancer Charities of America.

Nick O'Shea, ECNL director of coaching and girls' player development, said the goal is not only to raise funds, but also awareness.

"We have a lot of young ladies in the club, and they have sisters, mothers, cousins, aunts … if we can facilitate awareness of breast cancer for even one or two of them, that's a great thing," O'Shea said.

The club has been involved in the cause for four years. Director of Soccer Operations Simon Boddison said more people become involved each year.

This year the group took the cause online via social media, and in person at The Woodlands Mall where team members mingled with the public and posed for photos.

"We eventually hope to support breast cancer awareness and raise funds year round," Boddison said.
