THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The College Park Cavaliers took on the Cinco Ranch Cougars under the lights Thursday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium for both teams season opener. The final score of the game was Cinco Ranch 41, College Park 13.

The stage was set for a big match up, season openers are always exciting. Its not about seeing a perfect game, but instances of greatness that will surely shine brighter as the season deepens. Rome was not built in a day, neither was a Texas High School Football Team.

The College Park Cavaliers had a tough Thursday night. The Cavaliers struggled on offense but even more on defense. Momentum was hard to come by for them due to missed tackles, catches, and rushing attempts – it also didn’t help with the many flags acquired during the game. A defensive player for the Cavaliers was even ejected.

The Cavaliers were able to get on the board twice – the first came from running back senior Brenton Martinez. He was able to break through a gap in the red zone for the touchdown. The second touchdown came from a lob pass in the red zone by sophomore QB Kam Montgomery to senior Lamond Payne. After this score, the Cavaliers would try for two but was unsuccessful.

What was evident at this game was the commitment of the players and the fans. Even when the Cavaliers fell behind the fans stayed and cheered for their team. The student section for the Cavaliers kept its optimism till the final moments.

What Coach Madison had to say: “I didn’t think we played well enough on defense, the kids and coaches know that. We just weren’t able to get off the field. We got to take a big step forward on defense and get on the field”.

The College Park Cavaliers will play Klein Cane September 2nd at Klein Memorial Stadium at 7 pm.
