THE WOODLANDS, TX -- For the third year in a row, Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide grassroots environmental and community improvement non-profit organization, designated The Woodlands Township as a Gold Star Affiliate in recognition of its efforts to maintain and improve the environment. Gold Star recognition is the highest status membership recognition any community affiliate can achieve.

Affiliates that reach Gold Star status have demonstrated organizational aptitude and have robust community support. Affiliates must additionally share information on their mission and goals, answer questions about their economic development and diversity and inclusion practices or participate in the Beautify Texas Awards or Governor’s Community Achievement Awards programs. They also must provide a letter of support from their community. Keep Texas Beautiful will formally recognize Gold Star communities during the KTB Conference in June.

Under the auspices of Keep The Woodlands Beautiful, directed by the Township Environmental Services department, programs have been implemented to clean up litter, reduce and recycle waste, educate residents, and beautify and enhance The Woodlands. These programs drew more than 2,000 volunteer participants in 2023. Volunteers spent more than 6,000 hours working to keep local waterways, neighborhood pathways, and parks and green spaces healthy, promoting the Township’s vision to live in harmony with nature.

"Gold Star recognition from Keep Texas Beautiful for the third-year running reaffirms The Woodlands Township's commitment to environmental excellence. Through community engagement and tireless efforts, we're not just preserving nature; we're shaping a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Township Chairman Dr. Ann K. Snyder.

“Township Environmental Services works diligently to educate and involve residents in the important task of keeping our community clean, green and healthy,” said Township Environmental Services Manager Megan McNairn. “We invite residents to join us throughout the year for rewarding service opportunities such as Great American Cleanup events, the Invasive Species Task Force, Storm Drain Marking, Community Tree Planting and more.”
