THE WOODLANDS, Texas - It was a night to remember at The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce’s 37th Annual Chairman’s Ball on Saturday, August 15. Presented by Sam Houston State University, the formal event did not disappoint, as community members and leaders gathered together to honor the outgoing Chairman of the Board, Daniel Schroder, while also welcoming the incoming 2015-2016 Chairman, Keaton McDaniel.

Inspired by the Monopoly board game, the theme for the spectacular event was “Dannyopoly- Party on Park Place.” Complete with giant board game pieces, a jail cell for photo-ops and the conveniently named Madison Avenue Band, the event was a hit with everyone who attended.

While dinner was being served, Schroder expressed his thanks to the community as well as Chamber staff and volunteers for a memorable year as Chairman.

“Thank you so much for being here at the Chairman’s Ball. It has been a great honor and privilege to serve as Chairman for The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce this year. It’s been an absolute blast. I had such a great time as Chairman and enjoyed every minute of it. I’d like to thank my mentor, Brett Strong, and I’d also like to thank the entire Chamber Board.”

Not only will the Chamber have a new Chairman, but earlier this year Karen Hoylman announced her retirement as the Chamber’s CEO and President. After 21 years of service to the Chamber, Hoylman has helped launch many community organizations and services in The Woodlands. After announcing her retirement, a six-week nationwide search was put into place, and in July it was announced that J.J. Hollie would become the new President & CEO of The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce.

“I could not be more grateful for this opportunity. I'd like to thank the Board for their endless support. It means so much to me…I wholeheartedly accept this position,” said Hollie at the Chairman’s Ball on Saturday night.

A long-standing tradition for the Chairman’s Ball, businesses and organizations had the opportunity to decorate a table at the event that was coherent to the theme. Attendees of the ball could then walk around and look at each table, and then vote on their favorite. From ornate centerpieces and fabulous giveaways to Monopoly themed decorations, each table had its own unique flair. The table decorating contest winners were:

Best Use of Theme—The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center

Best Use of Logo—Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital

Best Overall Decoration—Market Street

Best Non-Profit—Sam Houston State University

Best Newcomer—Boni’s Dance & Performing Arts Studio

People’s Choice Award—CHI St. Luke’s Health - The Woodlands Hospital

After speeches from Schroder, McDaniel, Hollie and Hoylman, the fun didn't stop there. The live band covered hits from the the past and present, and brought attendees out onto the dance floor for a night of fun to honor Daniel Schroder and welcome Keaton McDaniel.
