THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Woodlands United Methodist Church hosted a very special event for a special group of individuals Tuesday, April 5, with the 2016 “Touched By An Angel" Banquet to benefit Special Angels of The Woodlands.

Do something today that your future self will thank you for.

Emceed by Special Angels of The Woodlands President, Mary Poillion, the event featured a luncheon, music, speakers, a silent auction, and fellowship, and memorial tribute to their founder, the late Thelma Baddock. Community leaders, residents, family and friends of the Special Angels, were on hand to show their support for this organization that enhances the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities by providing the highest quality Day Activity Center.

Keynote speaker, Bruce Tough, the Past Chairman of The Woodlands Township and the Tough Law Firm, underscored this commitment.

“Americans have a history of community service, giving their time, talents, and treasures to those in need, and The Woodlands is possibly the most giving and caring community in the country,” said Tough. “It’s an incredible place to live.”

Tough emphasized that the worthwhile and essential services provided to the Special Angels, which includes healthcare, learning assignments, exercise, field trips, and more, would not be possible without the generosity of The Woodlands.

“Volunteering and contributing is a two-way street. It’s the personal gratification you get back in addition to helping others,” added Tough.

A video slide presentation paid tribute to Thelma Braddock, the founder of Special Angels of The Woodlands, who passed away February 8, 2016, at the age of 89. Chairman Emeritus Phillip Givens said Braddock’s legacy with the Special Angels would live on.

In closing, Tough’s comment was a fitting tribute to Braddock.

“Do something today that your future self will thank you for,” said Tough.

While lunch was served by students from New Waverly Gulf Coast Trades School, the crowd was entertained by the Resound Choir of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, led by Chris Robbins, Director, The Woodlands United Methodist Church.
