CONROE, Texas -- A great local rivalry writes its latest chapter tonight as the unbeaten Highlanders of The Woodlands High School travel to Conroe to square off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.

Conroe comes into the game smarting from a tough-luck three-game losing streak. The Tigers could easily be 5-2 considering their last two games were decided by a total of seven points.

Offensively, Conroe has loads of firepower and averages 38 points per game. Running back Donaven Lloyd is both a work-horse and a big-play threat. He’s capable of carrying more than 30 times a game and has great instincts and breakaway speed.

Lloyd has run for more than 1,500 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. The Highlanders might consider it a good night to hold him under 200 yards, something that has happened only once this year.

The Woodlands’ versatile attack features a big play quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

Taking the snaps is Eric Schmid, who completes 70 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,400 yards. Most remarkably, he’s thrown for 20 touchdowns and been picked off just once. Also a threat when he’s chased out of the backfield, Schmid has run for 400-plus yards and five touchdowns, averaging just under nine yards a carry.

Jordan Talford shoulders most of the rushing load. He’s gained 524 yards and found his way into the end zone seven times.

The Highlanders average of 43 points per game doesn’t indicate just how well they’ve been playing lately. The Woodlands team has hit their stride with dominant performances in the last three weeks, averaging 59 points with an average margin of victory of six touchdowns.

Check back later tonight for game highlights and Player of the Game. The full game will be available tomorrow on demand.
