THE WOODLANDS, TX – This weekend marks the third Sunday in June, which is the special day earmarked for celebrating fathers and father figures throughout the nation. Father’s Day originated in Spokane, Washington in 1909 – ironically during a Mother’s Day sermon heard by Sonora Smart Dodd.

Sonora was raised along with her five siblings by her father after her mother died in childbirth, and she felt that he was due his own recognition. June was originally chosen as it was his birth month. The at-first local celebration took on steam, earning the recognition of no less than three U.S. Presidents: Calvin Coolidge gave his official support in 1924, Lyndon Johnson recognized the day via official proclamation in 1966, and Richard Nixon made it official by signing legislation in 1972.

While Mother’s Day has settled into an annual celebration or commemoration involving florists and restaurants and the occasional chocolatier, families seem to be more at a loss when it comes to selecting options for dad. Statistically, the necktie is the most popular choice of gift despite the proliferation of work-from-home and casual workweeks, and event card-giving isn’t top of everyone’s mind; three other holidays are more popular to the Hallmark industry each year.

Fortunately, Woodlands Online has the perfect outlet for sons, daughters, wives, and more to show those special father figures in their lives their love and appreciation. The official Woodlands Online Father’s Day Guide is online; a one-stop shop for information on gifts, events, restaurants, and more.

Check out the Guide by clicking on the link below; and be sure to supplement any gift with a special bouquet of the official flower of Father’s Day: the rose.
