SHENANDOAH, Texas - It was the Nick Black Show at Woodforest Bank Stadium on Friday night. The College Park High School senior running back ran for three first-quarter touchdowns and later filled in at quarterback as the Cavs improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 30-7 victory over 0-2 Huntsville.

Black rushed for 152 yards on 19 carries, including touchdown dashes of 52, 12 and 3 yards as the Cavaliers rolled up 279 total yards while limiting the visiting Hornets to just 97.

It was a team effort, according to Black, from players to coaches.

"My teammates came with it," Black said. "They brought it. It started with my line. They did a wonderful job. I was running through holes that were just unbelievable. Wide receivers blocking down field; coaches calling the right plays; defense getting us the ball; special teams being very special.

"It was a wonderful night, A-plus for the football team tonight."

He played quarterback in the fourth quarter after Cavaliers starting quarterback Colton Farmer cramped up.

"It was a challenge, but I'll do whatever to help my team," Black said. "I take snaps during practice."

Black even attempted a pass play, though his throw was incomplete.

"The pass play caught me off guard, but I did my best. Being 5-9 it's hard to see over everybody."

College Park head coach Richard Carson said he is seeing what was expected of the senior leader.

"Nick is one of the better running backs in the area," Carson said. "He set the tone. He's growing up. He's being a leader. We need those things out of him and we expect it, too."

Farmer turned in a big night as well, throwing for 102 yards (6-for-13) and a touchdown. Farmer connected with Chris Barnes for a 27-yard touchdown just before halftime. He set up another score on a long pass to Jayden Holden.

"We like to run the football but we've got to be able to mix it up," Carson said. "And our receiving corps: Chance Givens, Jayden Holden, and our tight end Chris Barners, we think are as good as anybody's. So we've got to take advantage of them.

"And that's part of what this deal is in the non-district, figuring out who we are and what we're good at."

The Cavaliers have proven to be good at holding the opposition with a strong defense.

"They are an experienced bunch and they've played hard and have lived up to what I expected," Carson said. "So two weeks in a row we've scored on defense, which is good. We're leading in the turnover ratio. We're taking it away more than we're giving it up."

The Cavaliers defense recorded a safety late in the game after Eric Harrell blocked a punt to set up an early score.
