Super bowl, state meet winners

Congratulations to all South County Football League Super Bowl winners as well as to all the players and teams of the SCFL for another fun and exciting season.

Super bowls in all divisions (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior) were played on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gullo Fields.

The Cardinals edged the Saints, 32-31, to win the Freshman Super Bowl while the Steelers won the Sophomore Super Bowl with a 26-12 decision over the Ravens. It was the Giants winning the Junior Super Bowl, 26-21 over the Steelers, and the Falcons captured the Senior Super Bowl, 21-15, over the Jets.

Don’t forget the South County Football League Night at Rice Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 16, when the Owls take on Tulane in a Conference USA clash beginning at 6 p.m.

There will be an in-game recognition for South County Football League players and coaches. All players and cheerleaders can participate in a fan tunnel before the game to welcome the Rice football team onto the field. Prior to the game there will be a meet and greet with current Rice athletes and cheerleaders.

Also, a big congratulations to the College Park High School cross country team for its outstanding finish at the UIL Class 5A State Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Round Rock.

The Cavaliers took second place in the boys’ division and third place in the girls’ division.

Connor Meaux led the boys’ squad, racing seventh overall in a time of 15 minutes, 59.55 seconds. Chris Williams (16:08) was 11th while Cooper Burner (16.19) and Walter Sagehorn (16:25) finished 15th and 18th respectively.

The Cavs were second in the team standings with a score of 85. Southlake Carroll, with a score of 80, took home the team title.

Colton Nettleton (16:41), Colton Brehm (16:57) and Tanner Maloney (17:16) rounded out the boys’ group from College Park.

Audrey Manchester (19:09) and Georgia Burner (19:23) led the College Park girls’ team, finishing 17th and 19th respectively. Pilar Glaser (19:29) and Stacie MacDonald (19:35) raced 22nd and 27th in order with Brittney Prince (19:44) placing 32nd.

College Park finished with a score of 117, just one point behind second-place New Braunfels (116) and seven points behind team champions Southlake Carroll (110) in a very tight race.

Arianna Lopez (20:58) and Kayli Jones (21:05) rounded out the Lady Cavaliers’ squad.
