College Park sweeps District titles

THE WOODLANDS, Texas - History was made for College Park High School as they hosted, then swept the boys and girls 2013 District 14-5A championships Thursday.

“It’s a great accomplishment and we are really proud of the kids, they’ve been training hard and it was a close battle and could of gone either way,” said Cavalier Head Coach Mike Gibson.

College Park and The Woodlands finished in a tie for first place in the girls rankings with a total of 28 points each, respectively. The tie breaker goes to the team’s sixth-place finisher, which was 10th for College Park and 12th for The Woodlands. A&M Consolidated finished third with 104 points.

College Park captured the boys district championship for the first time in school history with a total of 30 points, finishing just ahead of The Woodlands, who totaled 31 points. Oak Ridge also qualified for the regionals coming in third with 82 points.

The Woodlands had the top finisher in each of the boys and girls championships with Maddie McLellan and Logan Emery, respectively.

Qualifying for the Girls Region II 5A Championship next weekend in Arlington, Texas, were College Park, The Woodlands, and A&M Consolidated.
