THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Former Woodlands High School quarterback and baseball player, Lance Miles, is spending his summer at home in The Woodlands playing shortstop for the Woodlands Strykers.

“I was lucky enough to start my career playing for such a storied program under Coach Eastman at TWHS,” Miles said.

In high school, Miles was recruited by Kansas State University, and eventually decided to sign with them. His junior year, Miles decided to transfer to Sam Houston State University, where he is playing baseball and majoring in Business.

“I wanted to experience new things, and I’m so happy for the people I met and the things I learned while playing [at Kansas State]. Winning a Big 12 Championship my freshman year was just a nice bonus,” Miles said, “It took almost all summer [of 2014] to decide that I would finish my college years at Sam Houston State, giving me the best opportunity to graduate, win championships and enjoy my time doing it.”

This summer, Miles is playing shortstop for The Woodlands Strykers. In the spring, he started switch-hitting; he was right-handed his whole life, but he’s been switch-hitting full-time this summer.

The Strykers play six games a week, home and away. A typical day for Miles is waking up, working out, batting practice at 3:30 p.m., games at 7:05 p.m. and hanging out with the team after.

“I’m so blessed to be able to live here in The Woodlands and play for the Strykers,” Miles said. “Playing in the town that I love more than any other place in the state, in front of people that I’ve known my whole life is pretty awesome.”

In addition to playing for the Strykers for a couple of years, Miles spent the summer of 2014 playing baseball in New York in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

“Summer ball teams are filled with some of the coolest guys I’ve ever met. We come from all over the country (and sometimes the world),” Miles said.

Miles lived with a host family, The Williams Family, in Glens Falls, New York.

“While I was there I met a girl named Emily, who I kept in touch with ever since and now I’m lucky enough to say that she is my girlfriend,” Miles said, “So summer baseball opens up opportunities in all aspects of life, not just sports.”

The Woodlands Strykers consists of some players from The Woodlands, but it also brings in players from other cities, states, and even countries. Catch one of their games this summer at The Woodlands Christian Academy!
