2024 Oak Ridge War Eagle Football Team
2023 saw ups and downs for the Oak Ridge War Eagles, but a determined attitude and steady production on both sides of the ball saw the team generate enough buzz to make it two rounds deep in the postseason.
The War Eagles split their out-of-district play due to dropping the season opener in a slow-paced 7-16 loss to Brenham. Their district opener against The Woodlands went even worse, losing to the Highlanders 26-55. Needing wins to secure their spot in the district standings, Oak Ridge rode their staunch defense and reliable offense to a healthy winning record.
Oak Ridge went on to win 6 of their last 7 games to end the regular season in third place in the district standings, good enough for the playoffs. Their opening round against Dekaney came down to the wire, but the War Eagles did just enough to secure a 29-28 win before Tomball closed the door in the second round.
With last season's successes in mind, the War Eagles will begin their 2024 campaign against Klein on August 29th before hosting Cleveland as the district opener on September 12th.
The main question for Oak Ridge going into 2024 is how well will the team do without massive missing pieces on both sides of the ball. Joseph Jonah-Ajonye and Justin Williams anchored the defense last season, but have since left for the University of Georgia. The team's workhorse running back, Frankie Arthur, took his talents to UTSA. Without their major pieces, can the War Eagles contend for another shot at the postseason?
