2024 The Woodlands Highlanders Football Team
2023 marked another season spent in second place for The Woodlands Highlanders, and it took another historic season from an in-district opponent to keep them there again.
Following a brutally difficult out-of-district run that featured playoff-caliber teams in North Shore and Lamar, the Highlanders entered district battle-tested with an 0-2 record. From there, The Woodlands blazed a trail of seven consecutive wins before their date against the unbeaten Willis Wildkats. The most anticipated game of the regular season was highlighted with explosive plays, but an unwelcome outcome for The Woodlands. Their third loss of the season ensured that the Highlanders would have to settle for second place, but their advancement to the playoffs kept the team in high spirits.
The first two rounds of the playoffs were handled with ease due to the players' shared experience, but a reoccurring enemy reared their ugly head in the third round. The reigning State Champion Duncanville Panthers ushered the Highlanders out of the playoffs for the second straight season, and the team saw many of its key players leave.
Once again, the Highlanders are challenging themselves with a tough out-of-district schedule, opening the season on August 31st against Cinco Ranch. Deer Park is their second non-district game, and an anticipated Grand Oaks squad will mark the beginning of the district slate for both teams on September 13th.
