THE WOODLANDS – Last week, The Woodlands Highlanders beat the Willis Wildkats in a game that wasn’t close from the start. The Highlanders scored 54 points in the contest, totaling 311 yards of offense. Senior WR Bryson Bourn drove much of that production, scoring 3 of the 6 TDs the Highlanders put on the board. Bourn’s performance in such an important game certainly earns him our Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week.

The Woodlands came into this game white-hot, beating their rivals, the College Park Cavaliers, last week on a stormy night. Willis was a team they had struggled with over the past few years, and the Highlanders hadn't beaten the Wildkats since 2022. This year feels different, though, as The Woodlands has exploded on offense and looks like one of the best passing attacks in the Houston area. A big contributor to this success through the air is our Woodlands Church Athlete Of The Week, Bryson Bourn, who has been one of the top options on an offense filled with talent. Bourn had an exceptional game against the Wildkats, catching 5 for 110 yards and scoring an eye-popping 3 touchdowns. He also made fantastic downfield catches, including a 40+ yard helmet catch that he pulled in and then scored on for his 1st TD of the night. His 2nd TD came off a brilliant throw by QB Kaden Copelin, who fired it across the middle to Bourn, who burned the DB covering him. The final TD came on an awesome run after a quick shovel pass behind the line of scrimmage saw Bourn run 20+ yards to score yet again.

Bourn’s scoring has been among the best on this Highlander team in 2026. He currently has 6 total TDs this season, just 2 behind fellow WR Carter Cass. He did usurp Cass in yards this game, though, combining for 383 receiving yards so far. His 63.8 yards per game tells the story of his season, as Bourn combines incredible speed and route running to become one of the district's premier deep threats. He’ll no doubt have more games like this one, and he'll look to lead the Highlanders to new heights in this offense.

Some honorable mentions from this week also include Highlander kicker Franco Heinze, who set the school record for field goals in a game at 4, while also scoring 13 total points against the Wildkats. Kaden Copelin also deserves a shout-out, as the QB continues to light up opposing defenses and has looked like an elite QB this season.
