In 2015, Mattel released a brand-new Thomas & Friends toy range called MINIS to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Thomas & Friends. The range featured numerous characters in a variety of different themes. They were small sized, each acquiring a 4-wheeled chassis configuration and a hook and loop coupling system. Tender engines had their tenders molded behind their cabs and boilers. The two primary methods of distribution for the Minis were blind bags and visible packs. The minis have proved popular and very collectible. Production is currently in its eleventh year.
