The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC) presents The Art of Belonging, a juried exhibition featuring original artwork by members of The Woodlands Art League and Conroe Art League. The exhibition runs October 20, 2026, through January 14, 2027, at The Woodlands Arts Council gallery.
Art leagues are more than places to create. They provide artists of all experience levels with opportunities to learn new techniques, receive feedback, exhibit their work, and build lasting relationships. Through workshops, mentorship, and shared experiences, these organizations help artists build skills, gain confidence, and find encouragement among peers.
“Artists often work independently, but they thrive when they have opportunities to learn from and inspire one another,” said Jenny Carattini-Wright, Executive Director & CEO of The Woodlands Arts Council. “Art leagues provide that sense of belonging while helping artists grow. We wanted this exhibition to recognize not only their talent, but also the important role these organizations play in our community.”
René Wiley, an acclaimed Texas oil painter and owner of the René Wiley Gallery in Galveston, born and raised in Conroe, juried the exhibition. She evaluated the submitted artwork solely on artistic merit, without knowing the artists or their league affiliations. The exhibition received 71 artwork submissions from members of both leagues, showcasing the breadth of talent and creativity within these artistic communities. With only 30 pieces selected for display, the juried process was highly competitive.
“Art leagues give artists the encouragement and opportunities they need to take their work to the next level,” said Annette Palmer, Curator. “This exhibition is a chance for our community to discover their talent and appreciate the organizations that support their artistic journeys.”
The community is invited to an Opening Reception and Awards Presentation on Thursday, November 12, from 6–8 PM. During the reception, TWAC will announce the First Prize winner, who will be awarded a three-day Featured Artist Pop-Up Exhibition at the TWAC gallery, including curatorial assistance, social media promotion, and an opportunity to host collectors and guests.
Visitors are also invited to participate in selecting the People’s Choice Award winner by casting a vote for their favorite artwork. The winner will be announced on January 15, 2027, following the exhibition's conclusion.
