Get Moving at the YMCA – Free Pedometer for All Guests

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The South Montgomery County YMCA is one of more than 30 YMCAs across the Houston area opening its doors for free to seniors on September 23rd. The Open House will give seniors a chance to see what the YMCA has to offer, whether it be exercise classes, social gatherings, volunteer opportunities or field trips. In addition, there will be helpful information from community partners related to senior services.

The YMCA Open House and Activity Fair, for Seniors and their Guests, is Wednesday, September 23, from 10 am to 1 pm. Activities will include games, refreshments, screenings, information on health & nutrition, senior services, dance demos, fitness class demos, tasty samples from local restaurants, tours, door prizes and much more. Bring your family and friends. Wear your tennis shoes and be ready to live it up, have fun and make new friends.

“The National Institute on Aging finds that staying physically active and exercising regularly can help prevent or delay some diseases and disabilities as people grow older,” said Roxanne Davis, YMCA Group Marketing Director. “We encourage our active older adults to stay active. Physical activity improves strength, energy and flexibility. Growing older shouldn’t have to mean losing your strength or ability to do everyday tasks and the other things you enjoy.”

At YMCA, not only do we focus on senior health fitness, we make sure our older adult members know they are an important part of our YMCA family. Meet new friends every time you visit the YMCA. The YMCA helps older adults remain active and vital contributors to our communities. We offer several exercise and social opportunities for older adults, including:

• Water aerobics
• Silver Sneakers® Sit and fit exercise classes and Yoga
• Seniorcize Aerobic classes
• Monthly Field trips
• Social gatherings including potluck lunches, lunch outings, concerts, plays and much more.
• Silver Sneakers® Fitness program

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is here to help you improve your health and is provided for you at no additional cost by your Medicare and Medicare Supplement health plan carriers that are part of the SilverSneakers® program. One of the many benefits of the SilverSneakers® program is a free membership to your local YMCA!
