THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Thanks to the Girl Scouts and The Woodlands Fire Department, military personnel serving in Afghanistan and Iraq will be treated to more than 4,600 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

Nineteen Girl Scout Troops participated in the effort:
- Daisy Troops (kindergarten and first grade) 10795 and 11798
- Brownie Troops (second and third grade) 11690, 11775, 11797, 11758, 11731, 11557 and 10732
- Junior Troops (fourth and fifth grades) 11544, 11732, 11424, 11760 and 10714
- Cadet Troops (sixth, seventh and eighth grade) 11767 and 11294
- Senior Troops (ninth and tenth grade) 8683, 8169 and 8226

Girl Scout leaders Susan Welbes and Neslihan Tesno, who are also Township employees, coordinated the effort with Sterling Ridge Village Association board member Anthony Fasone.

Members of The Woodlands Professional Firefighters Association generously sponsored most of the postage costs of this venture.

Cards and letters of appreciation and support are important to young people serving far from home in dangerous and inhospitable locations. Citizens who would like to participate in supporting the troops can get involved by visiting AnySoldier.com or BooksForSoldiers.com.
