THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Woodlands High School boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten in District 14-5A play following a hard-fought 62-53 victory at College Park on Tuesday.

The No. 25 state-ranked Highlanders (21-5, 5-0) kept their composure down the stretch and although the hosting Cavaliers rallied to within three points late in the fourth quarter, The Woodlands prevailed and will host Oak Ridge at 7 p.m. Friday to conclude the first round of district play.

Cody Mason led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points. Garret Colonna and Brian Baehl added 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Highlanders appeared to have things under control, leading 34-24 at halftime and 43-31 after three quarters. But the Cavaliers fought back in the final eight minutes to draw close only to have the Highlanders pull away in the waning minutes.

Bryon Makel pumped in a game-high 21 points, on 6-of-13 shooting, for the Cavaliers (17-12, 1-4). Keanu Andaya added 13 points while Sam Osina finished with nine points to go along with 10 rebounds. Jayden Holden tallied five points while Nico Chergotis and McKinley Green added three and two points respectively.
