Deadline for taxes comes three days later this year
THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Tax payers will get three extra days this year to file their federal tax return in observance of Emancipation Day on April 15.
With the normal celebration date, April 16, falling on a Saturday this year, Emancipation Day will be observed Friday, April 15. Emancipation Day celebrates the day President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill ending slavery and is recognized as a national holiday. All federal offices, including the IRS, will be closed.
The final date to submit your taxes will be April 18, 2016, but tax payers are still encouraged to file their paperwork with a local tax office as early as possible.
