Folks, it’s September. In other parts of the nation, one might talk about the changing of the seasons and the first tendrils of crisp fall air creeping in, promising respite from the summer heat. But this isn’t another part of the nation. This is Texas. As we all collectively sigh at the never-ending 90º highs and the constant stream of hot, muggy evenings, let’s not forget the prime directive here: show up, have fun. And so, with very little segue and a lot of enthusiasm, here it is: our picks for the top five things to do in The Woodlands this week.

If you’re young(ish) and looking for some networking opportunities, look no further than The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce’s monthly After Hours networking event. It’s a social providing opportunities for Chamber members to meet and mingle with business professionals. This event is complimentary, but please pre-register online. Here’s the link to register online; the event will be held on Tuesday from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday marks the 18th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Join The Woodlands Township in honoring, remembering, and thanking our first responders with two special events on Wednesday - the Patriot Day of Remembrance ceremony from 7:30 to 8 a.m. at The Woodlands Central Fire Station and the First Responders Day event, a community gathering featuring a presentation of colors, Honor Guard, speakers and more at Town Green Park from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. For more information, see here.

If you’d like to hone your dancing skills, look no further than the free salsa class held at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday at Cielo Latin Bar and Lounge. There’s no cover charge and guests can purchase wine and draft beers for $5 on Thursdays.

Fun times for all can be had - and for a good cause - if one attends the annual “Shootout Hunger” event hosted by the Montgomery County Food Bank this Friday, September 13. Attendees will have the opportunity to shoot some clay pigeons. All in the name of charity, mind you! Click here to register for the event.

On Saturday, check out the live music at GenuWine. GenuWine offers local live music, great food, patio seating, and a terrific selection of boutique wines and craft beers. This week will feature Nobody’s Fool Trio, with a selection of country, classic rock, blues, and other hits. Space can fill up quickly, and reservations are recommended.
