THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township has re-opened Lakes Edge Boat House to the public as of Wednesday, July 8, 2020. It will remain open normal operating hours, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with last boats going out at 7 p.m., every day but Tuesdays. The boat house was temporarily closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday, July 6, 2020.

“All safety and sanitization procedures have been completed, notifications made or in progress, and the boat house is re-opened,” said Dr. Chris Nunes, Director of Parks and Recreation.

However, Riva Row Boat House will remain closed for the next two weeks due a significant portion of the staff that has been self-quarantined as a precautionary measure. Riva Row itself is not a danger and has been thoroughly cleaned following the exposure, but the remaining staff is only able to provide services at Lakes Edge because it is a smaller facility. The SUP Yoga programs are planned to continue at Riva Row on Wednesday evenings.

Staff is moving additional kayaks and paddleboards to Lakes Edge for the next two weeks to accommodate increased demand at that location although swan boats, water bikes, and pedal kayaks will not be available.

The Woodlands Township continues to work diligently to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors to Township the boat houses, pools, parks and other amenities. Township staff members undergo daily temperature screenings upon reporting to work, along with being asked a variety of questions regarding possible coronavirus exposure and symptoms. The employee who tested positive on July 6, 2020, was screened during all recent shifts including July 3, 4, and 5, 2020, and did not present with an elevated temperature at any time.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to engage in self-checking before visiting any public area. Self-checking includes monitoring for symptoms such as fever, sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, congestion and other associated symptoms. While in public, wear a face covering or mask, wash your hands frequently and stay six feet apart from others. If you suspect COVID-19 exposure, please contact your healthcare professional or your county health department to request a test, and limit your contact with others.
