MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Deputies from Montgomery County PCT 4 Constable Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden’s Office arrested a very impaired driver Thursday evening after he sideswiped another vehicle, hit a construction sign, crashed into the center divider, then fled the scene on foot carrying a rifle.

Just after 5:30 PM (01/20/2022), Montgomery Constable Precinct 4 Units responded to reports of a black pickup truck driving erratically and crashing into the center wall on the main lanes of US HWY 59 near the Grand Parkway. Multiple witnesses reported that a Hispanic male exited the truck carrying a rifle, and then ran across the grass onto the feeder road.

An off-duty Splendora Police Officer driving through the area stopped and detained the male. PCT 4 #DWI Units arrived a short time later and began their investigation. Deputies located the crashed truck, as well as recovered the rifle that the male was carrying. The male suspect was identified as Mario Arrendondo (35, Cleveland, TX).

During the investigation, Arrendondo’s behavior was erratic and aggressive. He repeatedly screamed incoherent statements, literally barking several times, and even ripped his shirt open and lunged towards a Deputy. Arrendondo was placed in custody for DWI and Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. A warrant for Arrendondo’s blood was signed by a judge, so he was taken to the hospital for a blood draw before being transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

“Drunk drivers are dangerous all on their own without adding in weapons or other factors,” stated Constable Hayden. “Law enforcement, with the help of concerned citizens, stopped a potential deadly situation. Everyone involved got home safely, which is our ultimate goal at the end of every call!”
