THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Rowing Club of the Woodlands traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma last weekend for the US Rowing Youth Central Region Championships. The Central Region draws teams from nine states and this regatta is the qualifying event for the Youth National Championship in Sarasota, Florida. Top three finishers in each category earned an automatic bid to the National Championship in June. Time trial racing on Saturday determined which boats advanced to the Sunday 6-boat finals.

Record Medal Count

Rowing Club of the Woodlands competed in 16 events with nine top three finishes (an historical team best), 'It's a drag race on water where skill, speed, strength, and endurance are everything', said Head Coach Davis Colwell. The team is looking forward to training the crews for the Nationals and stepping up to the challenge of racing the best of the best. 'Our athletes are thrilled to be racing in Sarasota, Florida against this level of competition', said Joe Flynn, Assistant Coach. 'For high school athletes, this is a real test, where only the fastest crews make it to the grand final where the champion will be decided'.

Rowing Club of the Woodlands athletes begin their final weeks of training this week on Lake Woodlands at North Shore Park in Woodforest Bank Boathouse, home of the Woodlands Dragons.
