THE WOODLANDS, TX - From seemingly out of nowhere, a severe thunderstorm blew through The Woodlands area late Wednesday night, leaving a trail of devastation in its powerful but short-lived wake. Thousands of residents lost power to their homes, and the next morning many were still waiting on repair crews to restore electricity to homes and businesses. Current estimates have main power being restored sometime this afternoon.

The devastation was varied but consistent in its importance. Outside the community of Timber Lakes / Timber Ridge, a large tree pulled down power lines to the entire neighborhood, snapping the power pole in two. At Kuykendahl and Lake Woodlands, an overturned vehicle snarled traffic, not helped by many traffic signals being out. Several homes had roofs punched through with fallen trees and limbs.

Roadways, driveways, and throughways all had tree impact at some point; the main vehicle exit from McCullough Junior High was completely blocked by a massive fallen tree limb. Law enforcement officials urged all travelers to use extra caution and look out for detritus on the roads and lane closures.

Woodlands Online will update this story as events dictate.
