THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Parati Competitive Rowing took its young team to Oklahoma City the weekend of May 3rd -May 5th. Instead of the rain shortened regatta they experienced at the Texas State Rowing Championships two weeks prior in Waco, this regatta was rain lengthened and all the racing was completed. 25 teams from the USRowing Central Region competed in a traditional regatta, two thousand meters to determine the fastest boats in the region. Instead of merely medals, each medal winner receives an invitation to USRowing’s Youth National Championship Regatta in Sarasota in early June. Parati entered 19 boats, many with novice crews, twelve qualified for a final and 4 finished in first place and one in second.

Young team sends 14 athletes, including 8 first year rowers

Juliet Bohn started out strong with a second-place finish in the U17 women’s single. The men’s U16 coxed quad was won by Parati’s all-novice crew of Timothy Reinhart, Brandon Ezem Weir, Christian Bohn, Ahren Iwanaka, and coxswain JP Ramirez. Not to be outdone, the all-novice women’s U16 coxed quad crew of Paige Yartym, Nellie Coleman, Regan Adams, Clare McKenna, and coxswain Presley Yartym handily won its final. Rounding out the gold medal winners was Jay Kirk and Patrick McKenna in the men’s pair and Juliet Bohn and Clare McKenna in the women’s U17 Double.

These crews, with the help of their teammates will prepare to compete at USRowing’s Youth National Championship Regatta next month. Parati Coach Michael Rosman, in his 12th season of leading the Parati crew said, “I am proud of all our crews, they worked very hard this year and put themselves in a position to win. Not everyone got what they wanted, but they are better for having tried. While these boats train for Nationals, I remind the rest of the team that training for next year’s Nationals begins now. Commit to getting just a little bit better each day and working hard for the goals you desire. These are traits that you can carry with you wherever you go in life.”
