City of Conroe Reminds Residents: Celebratory Gunfire and Fireworks Are Strictly Prohibited
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- As holidays and special events approach, the City reminds all residents that celebratory gunfire and the use of fireworks are strictly prohibited within city limits. These activities pose serious risks to public safety and can result in severe injuries, property damage, and criminal penalties.
The dangers of celebratory gunfire are real and often tragic. Bullets fired into the air do not disappear—they return to the ground at high speeds and can strike people, pets, or property blocks away from where they were fired. Falling bullets can cause life-threatening injuries or death, even when the shooter believes they are firing “safely.” Celebratory gunfire also places first responders and neighbors at unnecessary risk.
Similarly, unauthorized fireworks can cause fires, burns, and explosions, and may trigger anxiety for veterans, children, older adults, and pets. Fireworks can also damage homes, vehicles, and public spaces, especially during dry or windy conditions.
What residents should know:
- Discharging firearms and using fireworks within city limits is illegal.
- Violations may result in fines, confiscation of weapons or fireworks, and possible arrest.
- Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly by attending permitted community events or enjoying lawful alternatives.
How you can help keep our community safe:
- Choose safe, legal ways to celebrate.
- Report suspected celebratory gunfire or illegal fireworks to local authorities.
- Talk with friends, family, and neighbors about the dangers and legal consequences of celebratory gunfire.
The City thanks residents for helping protect our community and ensuring celebrations remain joyful, safe, and respectful for everyone.
