Governor Abbott Touts Texas Crime Rate Decline For Third Straight Year

AUSTIN, TX -- Governor Greg Abbott today touted that under his current term the crime rate in Texas fell for the third consecutive year, according to new Uniform Crime Reporting data released by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The statewide rate dropped 13% in 2025.

“Tough laws and strong law enforcement have reduced crime every year since 2023," said Governor Abbott. “We passed the toughest bail reform package in state history, backed law enforcement, and targeted violent repeat offenders. Three straight years of lower crime prove those policies work, and Texans are safer because of them.”

The statewide crime rate peaked in 2022 at 2,830.14 offenses per 100,000 people before falling for three consecutive years:

• 3.3% in 2023
• 8.2% in 2024
• 13% in 2025

Governor Abbott has made public safety a top priority. He’s signed into law the strongest bail reform package in Texas history, expanded resources for local law enforcement, and directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to target repeat violent offenders. The consistent decline in the crime rate reflects the results of those priorities and build on the Governor’s commitment to protecting law-abiding Texans by ensuring dangerous criminals remain behind bars where they belong.
