THE WOODLANDS, TX — Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Chairwoman and U.S. Navy veteran Laura Koerner today released a Veterans Day message in honor of the service and sacrifice of veterans across the Lone Star State. Chairwoman Koerner emphasized the state’s responsibility to lead in providing care, benefits, and resources for veterans today and for generations to come.

“On Veterans Day, we honor the brave men and women who served our nation with courage, dedication and sacrifice,” said Chairwoman Koerner. “As the Texas Veterans Commission approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, we reflect on a century of proudly serving Texas veterans and their families.”

"But our mission doesn’t stop there. As we look to the future, we remain committed to serving Texas veterans for the next 100 years and beyond. On behalf of the Texas Veterans Commission, thank you for your service, and happy Veterans Day.”

Texas is home to the largest veteran population in the nation — including the highest number of women veterans.

To make access to services and benefits easier for veterans, TVC recently launched its new online platform Texas Veterans Access (TVA). With it, veterans, transitioning service members and their families can set up a single, reuseable profile to connect with available services and support, eliminating the need for multiple forms. The Texas Veterans Commission delivers services through eight core programs. These programs and services are free and ensure that veterans and their families can access the benefits they’ve earned, successfully transition to civilian life, and receive support for health and wellness. TVC provides assistance with:

  • VA Claims & Health Care: helping veterans navigate the VA system and secure the compensation and care they deserve.
  • Mental Health & Peer Support: expanding suicide prevention efforts and providing critical mental health resources statewide.
  • Grants for Veteran Services: awarding millions in grants to nonprofit organizations serving veterans and their families across Texas.
  • Women Veterans Program: providing outreach, recognition, and tailored resources for the largest women veteran population in the nation.
  • Career & Education Services: assisting with employment, entrepreneurship, and education benefits, like the G.I. Bill and Hazlewood Act to help veterans thrive after service.

Chairwoman Koerner also highlighted the importance of recognizing veterans not only for their military service but for their ongoing leadership in communities.

“When veterans come home, they continue to serve — as teachers, business leaders, volunteers, and neighbors,” Chairwoman Koerner continued. “Their service strengthens Texas, and it is our honor to support them in return.”
