Magnavox Console Phonograph Cabinet / Mid-1950's Photos
Good Condition. A few scratches on top. Meet up, Grogans Mill.
This is a vintage Magnavox console phonograph (record player) cabinet from the mid-1950s, manufactured in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Based on the traditional colonial-style design with raised panel doors, brass drop handles with acanthus leaf motifs, one upper drawer (likely for accessories like needles or cables), adjustable interior shelves behind the double doors (for record storage), and a hinged lift-top lid revealing an open compartment (originally for the turntable mechanism), it matches descriptions of early Magnavox high-fidelity models like those in their 1950s catalogs, such as the Regency Symphony or Belvedere series. These were solid wood cabinets (likely walnut veneer over hardwood) built to house tube-based AM/FM radios, amplifiers, and automatic record changers, emphasizing aesthetic integration into home decor.
The electronics (turntable, tuner, and amp) seem to have been removed, as the compartments are empty in the photos—no visible changer base, speaker grilles, or wiring. Without chassis numbers (typically stamped on metal plates inside the back or bottom), exact model confirmation is tricky, but the logo and construction align with Magnavox’s pre-Astro-Sonic era pieces.
