The Montgomery County Children’s Advocacy Center dba Children’s Safe Harbor (CSH) is a nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) serving Montgomery, San Jacinto, and Walker Counties. Position Title: Executive Director Reports To: Board of Directors
Location: Children’s Safe Harbor (Conroe, TX)
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary: The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of Children’s Safe Harbor, a multi-county Children’s Advocacy Center dedicated to supporting abused and traumatized children. The ED provides strategic leadership and operational oversight, ensuring the organization meets its mission, programmatic goals, and community impact objectives. This role encompasses governance, financial management, fundraising, staff management, program oversight, compliance with child advocacy protocols, and advocacy at local, state, and national levels. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and community stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission. The Executive Director oversees an organization of approximately 40 employees, with projected growth to 50 employees as programs, staffing, and regional service capacity continue to expand. This role requires the ability to lead organizational growth while strengthening leadership effectiveness, operational systems, and staff development
Major Duties Include:
Strategic Leadership and Governance
● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish organizational priorities, strategic plans, and long-term goals aligned with the mission, vision, and values of Children’s Safe Harbor.
● Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, providing regular updates on organizational performance, financial health, and program outcomes, and supporting Board recruitment, orientation, and engagement.
● Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes accountability, innovation, professional growth, and leadership development, while guiding the organization through growth, staff expansion, and evolving community needs.
Program Development and Oversight
● Provide executive oversight of program development, outreach, policy implementation, and compliance with CAC accreditation standards, state regulations, and agency policies, ensuring consistency across all service counties and MDT collaboration.
● Represent Children’s Safe Harbor publicly through presentations, trainings, community events, and agency communications, including oversight of publications and external messaging.
● Support staff and partner development by promoting training, mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and opportunities that strengthen professional effectiveness and leadership capacity.
● Cultivate and maintain relationships with legislators, community leaders, and partner agencies to advance funding, policy initiatives, and organizational goals.

Financial Management and Fundraising

● Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, reporting, audits, fiscal oversight, and grant compliance, ensuring transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
● Approve expenditures and allocate resources efficiently while maintaining strong internal controls and audit readiness.
● Lead fundraising strategy, donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition efforts, and identify diverse funding opportunities across public and private sectors
Human Resources and Staff Leadership

● Provide executive leadership for human resources functions, including recruitment, supervision, performance management, compliance, and succession planning for an organization of approximately 40 employees, with projected growth to 50 employees.
● Support leadership development among managers and supervisors through coaching, training, and professional development initiatives.
● Maintain a healthy, inclusive organizational culture that attracts, retains, and motivates staff, while ensuring staffing structures and HR systems evolve to support organizational growth.
Community Engagement & Advocacy

● Serve as the organization’s primary advocate and spokesperson at local, state, and national levels, building strong relationships with law enforcement, CPS, community agencies, and stakeholders.
● Participate in community coalitions, professional networks, trainings, and conferences to advance child protection efforts and strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration.
● Promote strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives that enhance prevention, awareness, and coordinated community response.
Related Duties
● Promote continuous improvement in policies, procedures, and organizational practices.
● Ensure organizational policies and practices reflect the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required in nonprofit management, social work, public administration, or related field.
● Minimum 5-7 years of leadership experience, ideally in nonprofit, child advocacy, or related sectors with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
● Proven success in organizational management, program oversight, fundraising, donor cultivation, grant management, and financial stewardship.
● Demonstrated experience collaborating with Boards of Directors and cultivating strong board relationships.
● Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
● Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative in business planning.
● Strong critical thinking, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
● Mission-driven, with integrity, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure.

Other Requirements:
● Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and occasionally statewide for meetings, trainings, conferences, and community engagement.
● Commitment to professional development and expanding leadership capacity.
● Valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
● Successful completion of criminal and civil background checks.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
● $150,000-$180,000
