POSITION : Inventory Associate – Hand Me Up Shop
REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor
COMPENSATION: $18 hourly / Full-time
POSITION SUMMARY
The Inventory Associate plays a vital role in the success of the Interfaith Hand Me Up Shop, helping transform donated goods into resources that support Interfaith’s mission of building a more loving and caring community. This hands-on position is responsible for receiving, processing, and transporting donations, maintaining an organized and efficient work environment, and supporting a positive shopping and donor experience.
Working closely with staff, volunteers, donors, and customers, the Inventory Associate helps ensure donated items are safely moved, evaluated, prepared, and displayed for sale. This role requires excellent judgment, strong customer service skills, and the ability to perform physically demanding work, including the frequent lifting and moving of furniture, boxes, bins, and other donated items. The Inventory Associate also operates a 15-foot box truck to assist with donation pickups throughout the community.
The work performed in this role directly supports Interfaith programs and services that serve individuals and families throughout The Woodlands and surrounding areas. As part of Interfaith’s commitment to community service, employees may also assist with disaster recovery and emergency response efforts when needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES
• Provide exceptional customer service to donors, customers, volunteers, and community members, creating a welcoming and positive experience.
• Receive, evaluate, and process incoming donations, making timely decisions regarding donation acceptance and placement.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient workroom, sales floor, and exterior facility environment.
• Partner with and support volunteers by providing guidance, encouragement, and direction to promote productivity, teamwork, and engagement.
• Follow daily operational priorities and work plans to ensure merchandise is processed efficiently and sales floor inventory remains well-stocked.
• Safely load, unload, move, and transport furniture, donations, and other merchandise while minimizing the risk of damage.
• Operate a 15-foot box truck to complete scheduled donation pickups and deliveries.
• Perform basic furniture repair and light carpentry projects using power tools such as sanders, drills, and skill saws.
• Assist with store opening and closing procedures, including workroom and sales floor responsibilities.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and organizational policies while maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers, customers, and donors.
• Support Interfaith disaster recovery and emergency response efforts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must reside within 15 miles of 77381 zip code due to disaster response
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This employer participates in E-Verify.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check, employment verification, and drug screening.
Preferred
• Customer service experience
• Furniture retail and/or moving experience
• Experience working with diverse populations and in nonprofit settings
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Basic knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office Suite, and comfort using POS systems and other equipment.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and be a self-starter.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Good time management skills and a strong sense of urgency.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoy interacting with lots of people.
• Eagerness to learn.
• Must be able to operate and drive a 15-foot box truck to assist with donation pickups.
Travel Requirements
Frequent local travel. Must have a valid Class C Texas Driver’s License and comply with Interfaith’s Safe Driving Policy and Company Driving policy. Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record check before hire.

• Physical demands: Constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and standing. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours. Involves stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

Heavy lifting is an essential function of this job as moving of donations, boxes, bins and furniture, etc. are daily activities of this position at the Hand Me Up Shop. Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull donations, furniture, boxes, and bins weighing up to 50 pounds or more, with assistance when appropriate, and on a consistent basis.
Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions during donation pickups and receiving activities.
