At the January Board of Trustees meeting, CISD Board Members approved the assignment of Ken Sharples, current principal at Vogel Intermediate, to assume the leadership role as principal of the new intermediate school in the Oak Ridge feeder zone. The school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. In other action, the Board named two principals; Shellie Winkler was named the principal of Vogel Intermediate to replace Sharples and Amy Muehsler will be the principal of the Oak Ridge High School Ninth Grade Campus.

Sharples has been an educator for thirty years with eleven of those years as a building principal. When he was asked how he felt about being named the principal of a new school Sharples stated, "I have had the pleasure of working with the best teachers, students, and parents anyone could ask for at Vogel Intermediate School for the past seven years. I feel honored to help the Oak Ridge community transition into a second intermediate school as the area continues to expand."

Winkler is currently the assistant principal of Vogel Intermediate School and has served in that role for the past five years. Mrs. Winkler has also served two years as a fifth grade math teacher at Vogel Intermediate and a third grade teacher at Ford Elementary School. She began her teaching career for the Aldine School District as a fifth grade math teacher for two years at Vera Escamilla Intermediate School. Winkler received her Bachelor of Science in Academic Studies from Sam Houston State University in 1998. A Master of Education in Educational Administration was achieved by Mrs. Winkler from that same university in 2004. "I have had the privilege of working at Vogel Intermediate since it opened in 2001 as a teacher and assistant principal. I am very excited to be a part of Vogel's future. I look forward to working closely with the Oak Ridge area which has always been very supportive of our school," stated Winkler.

Due to the tremendous growth of the student population in the Oak Ridge area, the District will be adding a ninth grade center to Oak Ridge High School. The Oak Ridge High School Ninth Grade Campus will be housed at the adjacent facility currently York Junior High School. The Ninth Grade Campus will have a new name and a new principal, Amy Muehsler. She is a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 and her Master of Education Degree in 2001.

Muehsler has been with Conroe ISD since 1996 and has twelve years of experience as an educator. She taught social studies at McCullough Junior High School and The Woodlands High School until January of 2004 when she was named the assistant principal at The Woodlands High School. In January of 2006 she became the associate principal for student services at Oak Ridge High School. “I am extremely excited and enthusiastic about my new position," stated Muehsler. "The opportunity to work with students, parents, and faculty in a new capacity is thrilling. Creating a ninth grade campus for ORHS allows students to mature academically and socially in an environment that is safe and focused on the specific needs of freshmen. Students in such a setting have the opportunity to transition more smoothly without distractions typically seen at a four year high school. Our ninth grade campus will allow faculty members to invest in each student and build strong relationships that lead to academic success. I look forward to working with CISD and the Oak Ridge feeder system in developing students that are ready to take on the challenges of the twenty-first century."
